Anantnag: The police of Jammu and Kashmir have filed a case against National Conference lawmaker Altaf Ahmad Wani, commonly referred to as Altaf Kaloo, along with party spokesperson Umesh Bhat. The FIR was lodged after the legislator’s personal security officer (PSO) submitted a grievance.
The complaint was recorded at Sadar Anantnag Police Station under sections 121 and 351 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Investigators are now examining the details of the allegations.
Alleged Friction During a Security Duty
According to the PSO’s statement, a verbal dispute broke out while he was on duty protecting the MLA. The disagreement allegedly escalated, leading the officer to claim that Kaloo and Bhat physically assaulted him.
The officer further alleged that he suffered injuries, prompting him to file the FIR.
The matter is currently under investigation; no court has yet adjudicated the claims.
MLA Refutes the Accusations
Altaf Kaloo has categorically denied the accusations, describing them as baseless. He says he approached security officials after observing that the PSO had been absent from his post for several days.
Kaloo maintains that he reported the issue to the Senior Superintendent of Police (Security) and requested verification. He contends that the officer responded by pushing him during the subsequent confrontation.
The legislator has appealed to senior police authorities, including the IGP of Kashmir and the SSP of Anantnag, seeking an impartial inquiry.
Police Consider Both Versions
The FIR outlines two conflicting narratives. The PSO asserts he was attacked while performing his duties, whereas Kaloo provides a differing account of the incident.
Kaloo has indicated his intention to lodge a counter‑complaint against the officer and urges investigators to examine statements and evidence before proceeding further.
Authorities have initiated a formal probe to determine the exact circumstances of the reported clash and to establish the factual matrix of the case.
It should be noted that an FIR merely registers a complaint; it does not constitute guilt. Any subsequent legal action will depend on the outcome of the ongoing investigation.
